The Mighty Nein

 The Mighty Nein

Digital Illustration, 2020

Character portraits is one of the most common things I draw. I love being able to tell a story through character design and expression. With this illustration, I wanted to challenge myself by communicating each character’s strong and unique personalities while only showing half of their faces. These characters are based off the main characters of Critical Role’s second campaign.

Thumbnail Sketches

This illustration began as simple sketches. After seeing the potential of drawing all characters together, I drew it digitally. I adjusted their poses to allow the first four characters to mirror the other four. After having a base sketch, I added more detail. Once I was satisfied with the sketch, I then isolated each character so that I can draw them individually.

Detailed Illustrations

Below are the finalized portraits of each character in full. To maintain unity, I only used four shades of gray, black, and white as my main colors. Because of how limited my palate was, I used a more sketchy style. This allowed the illustrations to have a more inked, manga style.
