Eye to Eye

 Eye to Eye

Product Design and Packaging, 2021

When I was a kid growing up in the Philippines, I only knew how to speak English. This made me feel like an outcast amongst my peers and even my family. I imagine that for many children of immigrants who cannot speak their mother tongue, they face the same problems. Eye to Eye aimed to address this problem by providing a hypothetical solution: smart contacts. Through design, I explored what that product could look like and how it would be packaged for the masses.

Brainstorming

Before I arrived at the idea of smart contacts, I first brainstormed different tools that could address the problem of a language barrier. To really push myself, I thought of tools that could be wearable, digital, physical, spatial, or social.

However, I was attached to the idea of smart contacts from the beginning. I researched everything I could about contact lenses from different symbols to packaging to advertising to logo designs.

Packaging Prototype

I wanted the product’s design to communicate modern, unique, and high-end to the viewer. In addition, I was challenged to be considerate of packaging waste. For this reason, I used cardboard and paper as my materials.

I designed the digital prototype first to figure out scale. Here, I was able to establish aesthetics for eye to eye.

I then proceeded to build a cardboard prototype. Having a physical product helped me adjust the scale for the final design.

Case Study

After finalizing designs, I rendered both the product and package as 3D models. I then had to present this whole project as a case study.
