It’s My Turn to Roll
Identity System, 2020
Critical Role is a weekly Dungeons and Dragons stream that has entertained and inspired me. However, their branding and identity felt safe and not necessarily reflective of the magic that the show can bring. Enter It’s My Turn to Roll, a rebranding effort to capture the essence that tens of thousands enjoy around the world. From the logo to the typeface to the colors to the theme, I wanted to show Critical Role as something bright and ethereal. I then applied this design through different applications that anyone in the fandom could appreciate.
Research and Sketches
To gain better insight on the company, I created moodboards to identify different qualities that I associate with Critical Role.
With these qualities, I began to sketch logos. I created five sets of logo ideas to explore different avenues of design. Each set had five different iterations. I mainly wanted to incorporate the fantastical typefaces and dice as I think they symbolize the company at a glance

After I finalized the logo, I then proceeded to build on the identity. I came up with two different ideas: a dungeon marred with mysterious reds and blacks or a mystical forest of greens and browns. I sketched out two different applications for both identities.
Identity Guide
I moved forward with the forest theme as it still gave a mysterious feeling while being welcoming and bright. With the logo and identity resolved, I expanded as to how this identity should be used with an identity guide.
Final Application
Finally, to show the identity in action, I applied it in different ways that felt appropriate for the company.
